Questions About Courses in General
Are your training courses only offered online?
Yes. Online marketing changes fast; that’s why we stream our very latest video lessons off our server. All of our courses are web-based, and include on-demand streaming videos, regular live webinars, 24×7 Q&A forums, quizzes, assignments, and more.
What's the difference between Self-paced and Coached courses?
When you’re in the Self-paced online marketing course, you’ll set your own schedule and work at your own pace, following a structured online curriculum of streaming videos, pdf workbooks and recommended exercises. You’ll take progress quizzes along the way to ensure you’re retaining the information, and you’ll have to pass a final test before you can download your Certificate of Completion. Faculty support is available through an online forum.
If you take on the challenge of a coached Master Certification Course, you’ll study the same structured curriculum, but follow a strict weekly schedule over 90 days, progressing at the same pace as your fellow students. Plus, you’ll receive personalized faculty guidance, with feedback on your homework exercises during weekly conference calls. Finally, you’ll need to complete a rigorous real-world final project with faculty and peer reviews, and have to pass a dissertation defense to earn a Master Certification.
How long do the courses take?
Great question. The number of video hours vary by course, and you’ll want to watch, pause, and review some videos once or twice. Plus, there are workbooks to review and fill out, and recommended exercises. Add to that the time to take quizzes, and any extra real-world application you want to do to test what you’re learning, and you’ll be pretty busy.
Self-paced members probably spend a total of 25-35 hours to complete a single Certification course. Since they study at their own speed as their schedule allows, how long that takes depends on how many hours you’ve got to dedicate to your studies each day or week. A few members have earned a Certification in a single month. On average, most have busy lives, and take about 10 weeks at 2-3 hours a week. Learn more.
In the 90 Day Coached course, your curriculum is metered out in weekly assignments over the semester. The weekly study time estimate is the same: but you’ll also receive personalized feedback directly from the faculty on your weekly exercises, so there’s a chance you might want to redo some work to apply their insights. Additionally, there are weekly required “live class” conference calls for you and your course-mates to talk directly with your faculty… it’s a great chance to build a rapport with your fellow students, and get direct interaction with instructors. Add to that the final real-world project that makes up the last third of the calendar, and the Coached course is definitely the more time-intensive and challenging (but some say more rewarding) option. Plan on spending 5-7 hours per week, more when you’re working on your final project. Learn more.

Average salary for online marketers in the United States is $8-,307. The worldwide average salary of online marketers with 3-5 years’ experience is $58,388.
Is this a career I can pursue from home?
Yes, absolutely. If you work as a freelance consultant, and entrepreneur, or with a company that has flexible work options, you may very well work from home. Or your favorite coffee shop. All you need is a computer, appropriate software to your tasks, and a high speed connection.
Questions About Group and Team Training
Can I get discounts on multiple seats?
Of course! The baseline pricing is for individual users; discounts from that baseline are a sliding scale based on team size, length of commitment, and other considerations.
We’ve created team pricing plans for groups of three to thousands. We can build one for you.
Can I customize the training to my team's needs?
Yes. With your manager’s dashboard, you can assign (and re-assign) specific courses, lessons, exercises, and quizzes to each member of your team.
For large teams, we can even develop custom paths and collections.
I've got a lot of people, with varying degrees of experience and expertise. Will the training be valuable for all of them?
Our training is designed to get first-time marketers up to speed and productive quickly (it’s an awesome onboarding tool!) and higher level courses are challenging even for experienced marketers.
We consistently hear that the courses are both more difficult than expected, and fast-tracking productivity of new hires.
“The most measurable thing for me is that people are finding it to be much harder than they though it would be… they’re getting more out of it… it’s expanding them.” – Sean Kainec, Head of SEO & Senior Manager, Home Depot
Can you help me plan and launch our training initiative?
We’d love to! We have systems and assessment tools to help define current skill levels, and set appropriate training paths and goals, for each team member, so you have a custom plan for implementation and measurement.
We have student success advocates who can help you keep learners motivated and on track.
And we’ve worked with loads of groups with lots of different internal requirements, so we’ve seen the best practices that lead to success.
Can I just buy one membership and share it?
No. Our system is designed to track the progress and success of the individual learners; sharing a single account with multiple users means you can’t track individual progress through the courses, and thus can’t track the commitment of your team to their training. That means you can’t measure the ROI of your training investment.
Sharing a single account is also in violation of our Terms of Service.
Questions About Licensing and Reselling
Who can license or resell your courses?
We partner with higher education institutions, training organizations, and professional associations who have an existing commitment to training as a core business offering; and who have an installed audience for whom training is an identified desire.
You may be a prospective Market Motive partner if:
- You are an accredited college, university, or other educational institution.
- You are a professional organization or association that provides training to active members.
- Education is a core competency of your business.
- You have the resources to actively manage and administer an education program.
Do you have an affiliate program?
No. This is not an affiliate program.
To learn if you qualify as a licensee or reseller, see the answer to the above question.
If you think you qualify, contact us!
Questions About Buying
Am I just buying a Certification?
In a word, no. Not everybody certifies, not even in the Coached courses. Our courses are challenging even for experienced marketers. Besides, if you could just buy a Certification, it wouldn’t really have any value.
But if you have a desire to learn, take the time to watch the video lessons carefully, take good notes, and rewatch videos when necessary to assure you’re absorbing the materials, you’ll do well. Experienced or not.
Doesn't real experience trump any Certification?
We know Certification is no substitute for years of real-world industry experience. But whether you’re just getting started in online marketing, or you’re already working in the field, Certification can provide valuable professional validation.
If you’re new to the industry, getting caught up on a decade’s worth of industry evolution and learning the latest in bleeding edge techniques from a respected source is an invaluable start.
If you’re an experienced online marketer, Certification still holds value. Just like attending conferences, trade shows and seminars, earning Certification from a reputable provider demonstrates your commitment to continued education in industry trends and best practices, and ongoing professional development.
All Market Motive Certification Courses are recognized by OMCP® as preparatory for OMCP Certification. (does not apply to short courses)
What should I look for in a training program?
Many places offer programs and courses, but ultimately you should look to the expertise of the faculty when seeking out your education. Our faculty members are the proven leaders, keynote speakers, and bestselling authors in their particular disciplines. Faculty at other institutions likely learned from, and are teaching from, the publications and presentations of our esteemed faculty.
When you research online marketing training programs, look for the following things:
Are the teachers visible and active in the industry or have they simply learned the material from other experts?
Does the training program offer comprehensive cross-discipline training in all aspects of online marketing or are they just offering one subject? It is critical at this stage that one studies more than one discipline (e.g. SEO and Conversion Optimization or Social Media, Social Media and Analytics, PPC and Conversion Optimization just to name a few combos).
There’s more to know. We’ve got a great comparison worksheet you can use to help find the right provider.
Can I just buy one course?
We think of it like a gym membership: You’ve got access to all the machines, even if right now you’re only working on your biceps.
We promote a cross-training philosophy, and make all our courses available to all our members. Digital marketing rewards the multi-hyphenate, and the more you understand multiple disciplines the healthier your skill set will be, and the more valuable you are to your company and clients.
That said, some of our licensing partners do offer discrete access to specific courses. If that’s what’s best for you, we’ll point you in their direction.
But I really just want one course!
Don’t forget, you can cancel any time. So if one course is really all you want, focus on that course and simply cancel when you’re done. Easy peasy!
But you may find that supplementing your new skills with complementary training has its advantages.
Will you help me decide what to take?
Sure! Give us a call, email us, or contact us through the form. Our learning plan specialists excel at helping folks just like you figure out the best plan to achieve your training goals.
Can I really quit any time?
Yep. If you’re a monthly member, you can cancel whenever you’re ready. You’ll maintain access till the end of your billing period. Plus, monthly members and Coached students can get a full refund any time during the first 7 days after joining.
But really, is quitting what you want to do?
OK, I'm a member now. Which course should I start with?
We recommend starting with the Fundamentals course. It’s a great primer that will get you familiar with each of the core disciplines.
If you’re already well-versed in one discipline, choose a complementary skill that will enhance your ability to serve your clients and your company.
How can I control video buffering?
Our system does its best to automatically meter the video quality to suit your connection speed at all times.
If you’d like to default your videos to a lower bitrate to accommodate consistently poor connections, enter your profile (top right of your dashboard) and select the low bitrate stream.
On a mobile device, your player includes an HD / SD selector. Choose SD for poor connections.
Can I have the faculty's direct email?
We like to keep faculty interaction inside the Market Motive ecosystem. Use the faculty moderated forums to post questions about curriculum, projects, videos, anything that’s got you wondering.
If you’re a coached student, you’ve got a required weekly “Live Class” conference call to get one-on-one interaction.
We do recommend you visit the faculty page and follow the faculty on their personal Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and G+ profiles.
